Overview
GDIT’s DeepSky lab is a mirrored government environment that enables users to test new capabilities and collaborate with technology partners, industry associates, and emerging technology companies. Prior to this, DeepSky lacked mature branding despite it having been developed at GDIT years earlier. The rebrand aimed to market DeepSky to GDIT employees and partnering government personnel to encourage more users to engage with the environment.
Creative Process
Before diving into the design process, it was important I understood DeepSky's mission and objectives. With limited information available online at the time, I started with conducting interviews with key stakeholders involved in the development and current maintenance of DeepSky.
The stakeholder interviews all emphasized the level of innovation and collaboration possible in a government environment like DeepSky. I chose to use a clean, futuristic sans serif font that would also pair nicely alongside the GDIT logo in cases when these logos were used together.
Next, I presented two rounds of logo variations to decisions makers at GDIT. This included the Vice President of GSS and the Director of Innovation. After making a few adjustments based on initial feedback, the team unanimously agreed on a logo, and from there, I began working on the brand manual. The comprehensive brand manual outlined the proper usage of the logo, color codes, typography, and included a custom pattern. The brand manual was created to maintain consistency across various applications and ensure a successful cohesive brand identity for DeepSky.
The Results
The DeepSky logo is currently featured on all DeepSky government environments. The new and improved branding propelled marketing efforts to create a dedicated page detailing DeepSky's mission on GDIT's website. The branding continues to be used to this day.
